TBARTA’s Land Use Working Group is creating a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Resource Guide to help interested communities throughout the Tampa Bay Region better understand and prepare for TOD. The goal is to provide a menu of options for local jurisdictions to choose what will work best for them to promote compact neighborhoods with housing, jobs, shopping, community services, and recreational opportunities, all within easy walking distance (1/4-mile to 1/2-mile) of future transit stations. Your unique insights on various tools and strategies are needed to improve the TOD Resource Guide.

TBARTA Board of Directors has unanimously approved the 2011 Master Plan Update, a legislatively-mandated process that broadens the plan to incorporate the full spectrum of transportation in the Tampa Bay region, including freight, airports, seaports, air quality and roadways. The approval follows an extensive public engagement process that reached thousands of people in seven counties. Thank you to all who participated and shared their comments and suggestions, several of which were incorporated into the plan. In 2009, TBARTA developed a Regional Transportation Master Plan for Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties. While considering all modes of transportation, the TBARTA Master Plan initially focused on providing the framework for integrated regional transit to serve all parts of the region. In 2011, TBARTA updated the Master Plan to include the Regional Roadway Network, Regional Freight Network, and Air Quality issues.
TBARTA has since identified project priorities for further detailed study. These "Group One Project Priorities" are highlighted in the map to the left, as well as on the Projects page of this website.
In selecting its priority projects, TBARTA sought a balance of projects in the northern, southern, and central parts of our region, as well as a balance of different transit modes. The priority recommendations were made in coordination with transit agencies, county Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
